Anṣār al-Salām
About the Fellowship
Since 1994, the Muslim Peace Fellowship has gathered scholars, students, and practitioners around a single conviction: that the practice of nonviolence is native to the heart of Islam.
The Muslim Peace Fellowship — Anṣār al-Salām, the Helpers of Peace — was founded in 1994 as the first Muslim organization specifically devoted to the theory and practice of Islamic nonviolence. We understand unarmed struggle in pursuit of wise, just, and compassionate social transformation to be the original and enduring genius of the Prophetic jihad.
Part membership group, part think tank, and part movement builder, MPF gathers peace- and justice-oriented Muslims of every background, together with people of all faiths who wish to understand the Islamic foundations of peace. Our work rests on the conviction that the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the long history of Muslim peacemakers offer a rich and living tradition of active nonviolence — one too often obscured, within the community and beyond it. We document that tradition, teach it, and pray it into practice, so that the beauty of Islam may be evident in the world.
Our affiliation
The Muslim Peace Fellowship is a member group of the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR-USA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the oldest interfaith peace organization in the United States. Through this affiliation we join a broad, multi-religious movement for justice and nonviolence — while contributing the distinctive gifts of our own tradition.
